Time Tracking

CueCapture includes a powerful time tracker that lets you log work sessions on any task. Perfect for freelancers tracking billable hours, teams measuring productivity, or anyone curious about where their time goes.

  1. Open Settings (⚙️)
  2. Go to Features
  3. Enable Time Tracking

To save time logs to Notion:

  1. Go to Settings → Notion Databases → Time Logs
  2. Connect your Time Logs database
  1. Hover over any task
  2. Click the timer icon (⏱️)
  3. Timer starts counting

Or select a task and press T.

Start tracking without selecting a task:

  1. Click the timer in the status bar
  2. Start typing to name the session
  3. Assign to task later

When tracking, you’ll see:

  • Running time - HH:MM:SS format
  • Task name - What you’re tracking
  • Controls - Pause, stop, discard

The timer appears in:

  • Widget status bar (always visible)
  • Task row (when tracking that task)
  • System tray tooltip (background)

  • Pause: Temporarily stops the timer, resume anytime
  • Stop: Ends the session and saves the time log

When you stop a timer, CueCapture creates a time log:

  • Task level: Click task → Time tab
  • All logs: Settings → Data → Time Logs
  • In Notion: Open your Time Logs database
  1. Open the time log (task details or log list)
  2. Click Edit
  3. Adjust start time, end time, or duration
  4. Save changes

Add time without using the timer:

  1. Select a task
  2. Click timer icon → “Add Manual Entry”
  3. Enter:
    • Start date/time
    • Duration (or end time)
    • Notes (optional)
  4. Click Save

Useful for:

  • Logging time retroactively
  • Adding time from other tools
  • Rounding to clean intervals

Set daily or weekly time goals:

  1. Settings → Time Tracking → Daily Goal
  2. Set your target (e.g., 6 hours)
  3. Progress bar shows daily tracked time
  1. Settings → Time Tracking → Weekly Goal
  2. Set your target (e.g., 40 hours)
  3. View progress in the timer panel

Set time budgets per project:

  1. Edit project in CueCapture
  2. Set “Time Budget” property
  3. See remaining time vs tracked

Click the timer icon to see:

  • Total time today
  • Breakdown by task
  • Comparison to goal

View → Reports → Weekly:

  • Total hours per day
  • Time by project
  • Top tasks by time

Export time logs for invoicing:

  1. Settings → Data → Export
  2. Select date range
  3. Choose format (CSV, JSON)
  4. Download file

Configure timer to start automatically:

  • When you open a task
  • When you focus the widget
  • At scheduled times

Settings → Time Tracking → Auto-start

Timer can stop automatically:

  • After idle time (configurable)
  • At end of workday
  • When task is completed

Built-in Pomodoro timer:

  1. Enable in Settings → Time Tracking → Pomodoro
  2. Work interval: 25 min (default)
  3. Break interval: 5 min (default)
  4. Long break: 15 min (every 4 pomodoros)

Timer alerts you when intervals end.

If connected to a Time Logs database:

  • ✅ Start/end time
  • ✅ Duration
  • ✅ Task relation
  • ✅ Notes
  • ✅ Project (if configured)
  • Logs sync when timer stops
  • Edits sync within seconds
  • Deleted logs sync immediately

If offline:

  • Logs save locally
  • Sync when connection restored
  • Conflict resolution automatic

Start the timer as a habit, even for small tasks. You’ll be surprised where time goes.

Add notes when stopping timer:

  • What you accomplished
  • Blockers encountered
  • Next steps

Spend 5 minutes reviewing time logs:

  • Are you spending time on priorities?
  • Any tasks taking too long?
  • Patterns to optimize?

For client work:

  • Create projects per client
  • Use manual entries for clean billing
  • Export monthly for invoicing
  • Check Time Tracking is enabled
  • Verify no timer already running
  • Try restarting CueCapture
  • Verify Time Logs database is connected
  • Check property mappings
  • Look for sync errors in Settings
  • Check timezone settings
  • Verify start/end times
  • Timer may have paused
