Troubleshooting
Having issues with CueCapture? This guide covers common problems and their solutions.
Connection Issues
Section titled “Connection Issues”Notion Connection Failed
Section titled “Notion Connection Failed”Symptoms:
- “Unable to connect to Notion” error
- Tasks not loading
- Sync icon shows error
Solutions:

Check internet connection
Ensure you’re connected to the internet.

Verify API key
- Go to Settings → Notion Databases
- Click “Verify” next to your API key
- If invalid, get a new key from notion.so/my-integrations

Check database sharing
- Open your database in Notion
- Click ”…” → “Connections”
- Verify your integration is listed

Restart CueCapture
Close and reopen the app to reset connections.
Tasks Not Syncing
Section titled “Tasks Not Syncing”Symptoms:
- Changes in CueCapture don’t appear in Notion
- Changes in Notion don’t appear in CueCapture
Solutions:
- Manual refresh: Press
Ctrl/Cmd + R - Check sync status: Look for error icons
- Verify permissions: Integration needs read/write access
- Check filters: Your filter might be hiding tasks
Sync Is Slow
Section titled “Sync Is Slow”Possible causes:
- Large database (1000+ tasks)
- Slow internet connection
- Many concurrent changes
Solutions:
- Increase sync interval in Settings → Sync
- Archive completed tasks in Notion
- Use filters to reduce loaded tasks
Widget Issues
Section titled “Widget Issues”Widget Not Appearing
Section titled “Widget Not Appearing”Solutions:
- Check system tray for CueCapture icon
- Try the global shortcut:
Ctrl + Shift + Space - Check if another app is blocking the window
- Restart CueCapture
- Check menu bar for CueCapture icon
- Try the global shortcut:
Cmd + Shift + Space - Check System Preferences → Security for permissions
- Restart CueCapture
Widget Stuck Off-Screen
Section titled “Widget Stuck Off-Screen”If the widget moved off your visible screen:
- Open Settings → Preferences → Widget
- Click “Reset Position”
- Widget returns to center of main screen
Or press Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + R to reset position.
Widget Too Small/Large
Section titled “Widget Too Small/Large”- Settings → Preferences → Widget → Size
- Adjust width and height
- Or drag widget edges to resize
Global Shortcut Not Working
Section titled “Global Shortcut Not Working”- Check for conflicts: Another app may use the same shortcut
- Verify shortcut: Settings → Shortcuts
- Try different shortcut: Customize if needed
- Restart CueCapture: To re-register shortcuts
Time Tracking Issues
Section titled “Time Tracking Issues”Timer Not Saving
Section titled “Timer Not Saving”Solutions:
- Ensure Time Logs database is connected
- Check property mappings in settings
- Verify you clicked “Stop” not “Discard”
- Check for sync errors
Duration Wrong
Section titled “Duration Wrong”Possible causes:
- Timezone mismatch
- Timer was paused
- Manual edit error
Solutions:
- Check timezone settings on your computer
- Edit the time log to correct duration
- Verify start and end times
Time Logs Not Syncing to Notion
Section titled “Time Logs Not Syncing to Notion”- Verify Time Logs database is connected
- Check all required properties are mapped
- Ensure “Include time” is enabled on date properties
- Try manual sync
Voice Issues
Section titled “Voice Issues”Microphone Not Working
Section titled “Microphone Not Working”-
Check permissions
- Windows: Settings → Privacy → Microphone
- macOS: System Preferences → Security → Microphone

Select correct microphone
- Settings → Voice Assistant → Microphone
- Choose your microphone from dropdown
- Test with “Test” button

Try different speech mode
- Browser Speech, Whisper, or Deepgram
- Some work better with certain mics
Poor Voice Recognition
Section titled “Poor Voice Recognition”Solutions:
- Speak closer to microphone
- Reduce background noise
- Try Whisper or Deepgram mode (more accurate)
- Speak at normal pace (not too fast)
Voice Commands Not Recognized
Section titled “Voice Commands Not Recognized”- Commands work best with Whisper or Deepgram
- Try explicit phrasing: “Add task…”
- Check Settings → Voice Assistant → Commands
Performance Issues
Section titled “Performance Issues”CueCapture Running Slowly
Section titled “CueCapture Running Slowly”Solutions:

Reduce loaded tasks
- Enable “Exclude completed tasks”
- Use filters to load fewer tasks

Check memory usage
- Close other heavy applications
- Restart CueCapture periodically

Disable unused features
- Turn off features you don’t use
- Reduces background processing
High CPU Usage
Section titled “High CPU Usage”Possible causes:
- Continuous sync issues
- Voice always-listening mode
- Large database processing
Solutions:
- Increase sync interval
- Disable auto-listen mode
- Archive old tasks in Notion
- Restart CueCapture
Startup Is Slow
Section titled “Startup Is Slow”Solutions:
- Reduce initial task load (use filters)
- Disable “Show completed tasks” by default
- Check if antivirus is scanning the app
- Ensure SSD (not HDD) if possible
Cloud Sync Issues
Section titled “Cloud Sync Issues”Cloud Sync Not Working
Section titled “Cloud Sync Not Working”- Verify subscription is active
- Check you’re signed into correct account
- Click “Sync Now” to force sync
- Check internet connection
- Sign out and back in
Settings Not Appearing on New Device
Section titled “Settings Not Appearing on New Device”- Ensure same account on both devices
- Wait for sync to complete (may take 30 seconds)
- Try “Sync Now” on both devices
- Check for sync errors in settings
Conflict Errors
Section titled “Conflict Errors”When settings conflict between devices:
- CueCapture shows conflict dialog
- Choose which version to keep
- Or: sync the device with correct settings first
Installation Issues
Section titled “Installation Issues”Windows SmartScreen Warning
Section titled “Windows SmartScreen Warning”This is normal for unsigned apps:
- Click “More info”
- Click “Run anyway”
- App is safe and open source
macOS “Unidentified Developer”
Section titled “macOS “Unidentified Developer””- Right-click the app
- Select “Open”
- Click “Open” in the dialog
- Only needed once
Update Failed
Section titled “Update Failed”- Download latest version manually from GitHub
- Install over existing version
- Settings are preserved
Data Issues
Section titled “Data Issues”Tasks Duplicated
Section titled “Tasks Duplicated”Causes:
- Sync conflict
- Database restored from backup
- Multiple imports
Solutions:
- Delete duplicates in Notion
- CueCapture will sync deletions
- Avoid importing while syncing
Tasks Missing
Section titled “Tasks Missing”Check:
- Filter settings (may be hiding tasks)
- Task exists in Notion
- Database is shared with integration
- Task wasn’t recently completed
Settings Lost
Section titled “Settings Lost”If settings disappeared:
- Check if you signed out of cloud sync
- Restore from backup: Settings → Data → Restore
- Re-configure if needed
Getting More Help
Section titled “Getting More Help”Check Logs
Section titled “Check Logs”CueCapture logs errors for debugging:
- Settings → About → “View Logs”
- Logs show recent errors and sync activity
Reset CueCapture
Section titled “Reset CueCapture”As a last resort, reset to defaults:
- Settings → Data → “Reset All Settings”
- You’ll need to reconfigure Notion connection
- Cloud sync settings preserved (if signed in)
Report a Bug
Section titled “Report a Bug”If you can’t resolve the issue:
- Settings → About → “Report Bug”
- Include steps to reproduce
- Attach logs if possible
